Study of the impact of the work of FORUT in Sri Lanka and Save the Children Norway in Ethiopia: Building civil society: synthesis report
This report contains case studies of the contribution that two Norwegian NGOs (Save the Children Norway and FORUT) made in terms of strengthening civil society in Ethiopia and Sri Lanka. Moreover, the study assesses the impact of the work of these two Norwegian NGOs and their partners in the areas of democratisation, respect for human rights and poverty reduction. The study discusses a conceptual framework for impact assessment and for civil society impact assessment in particular, including a 'chain of impact' model. This methodology is subsequently applied to the case studies concerned, where a broad approach to impact assessment is taken.
Based on the findings of this impact assessment study, the report also considers how NGOs could report on impact in the fields of democratisation, human rights and poverty reduction.
