Human Rights Impact Assessment In Practice

2007 Conference Report [PDF]

2006 Conference Report [PDF]

What is HRIA?

Human rights impact assessment (HRIA) measures the impact of policies, programmes, projects and interventions on human rights.

It can be used for actions that are specifically designed to have an impact on human rights, in which case it will be used to determine maximum positive impact. It can also be used  for activities and interventions that are not intended to impact on human rights but could do so indirectly.

HRIA assists in systematically determining whether policies, programmes and activities take human rights sufficiently into account.

For more information see our HRIA Guide.

The Human Rights Impact Resource Centre provides centralised access to a broad range of information and expertise on human rights impact assessment (HRIA). Users with varying interests and expertise can find relevant documents, discuss new developments and contribute to the growing HRIA knowledge base.
