HRIA Conference 2007 [Pre-Conference Announcement]

Workshop 1 (Thursday afternoon): Human rights impact assessment

The evaluation of last year’s conference shows that there is a strong interest in obtaining an introduction to the concepts and theories of Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA). While the other themes and workshops at the conference relate to specific areas of human rights, and to impact assessment tools that address these specific rights, this session aims for a better understanding of Human Rights Impact Assessments in general. It examines the possibilities and limitations in applying human rights impact assessment tools, and looks at how to develop these tools. Some examples will be shown with explanations of their development and practical use.

The workshop is open to scholars, practitioners and policy makers who wish to get a better insight in the role impact assessment could have in designing and implementing policies and programmes that intentionally (and sometimes unintentionally) affect human rights positively and negatively.
