Human Rights Impact Resource Centre has been renewed
The Human Rights Impact Resource Centre has renewed its online knowledge centre. As from today, human rights practitioners from all over the world are able to join in for discussions, collaborative work and interaction through the web. New features include online work spaces, discussion groups and RSS feeds.
Impact assessment of women health rights
The first group of practitioners that uses the Resource Centre for ongoing work was present in Cape Town, South Africa. There, from May 19 until May 27, Aim for human rights conducted a training on women health rights. The 13 participants of the training came from a variety of countries: e.g. Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Mexico, Zimbabwe and South Africa. They work on such issues as violence against women, female genital mutilation and high mortality of women in labour. To increase the effectiveness of their lobby activities, they analyse the situation of women using a method, based on human rights impact assessment, called HeRWAI. The analysis helps to link what actually happens with what should happen according to the human rights obligations of a country. The training in Cape Town allowed them to exchange experiences and learn how to train others to apply the analysis.
Worldwide online cooperation
The Human Rights Impact Resource Centre, developed by Aim for human rights, now offers space for such initiatives as the Women Health Rights training. It allows continued collaboration on distance among the various participants of the training through webbased technologies. As the renewed Human Rights Impact Resource Centre was presented, participants reacted enthusiastic.
“The reason I want to become a HeRWAI trainer is because I know HeRWAI works, I believe in the method. With this Resource Centre work space I can exchange ideas, knowledge and my experiences with all HeRWAI trainers worldwide.” – participant of training
