Center for Legal and Social Studies/Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (CELS)

The Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1979 to foster and protect human rights and to strengthen the democratic system and the state of law in Argentina.

Today, CELS works to uncover human rights violations that take place within the democratic context. Themes such as discrimination, institutional violence, access to justice, prison conditions, access to information, the freedom of expression, rights of immigrants and refugees, as well as economic, social, and cultural rights compose the ambit of CELS’ action.

At the same time, CELS continues its endless task of the remembrance of human rights violations and the fight against impunity for dictatorial crimes.
