In Consulting for Business Sustainability sustainability consultants from around the world offer some of their perspectives and lessons on how to truly create sustainable value for their clients. Packed with new tools, advice and approaches, the book comprises a unique collection of wisdom from some of the leading lights in sustainability consulting practice. The areas covered include: developing best-in-class environmental management systems; sustainable design; supporting organisational change agents; working with key stakeholders; social impact assessments; human rights; and regulatory risk.
The chapter ‘Human rights informing social impact assessments: the end of assessing social impact with one eye shut’ written by Sune Skadegaard Thorsen, Troels Børrild and Kamilla Vejergang Lembcke is about the use of human rights regarding to impact assessments. The authors show us how to add further value to Social impact assessments through the incorporation of a human rights perspective to the standard methodology. The authors believe that the normal approach misses many key elements.
The chapter begins with a brief introduction to social impact assessment and its relevance to all industries. They then discuss the value of letting human rights guide and inform standard social impact assessments. They lastly describe how it is done and provide a vision for what they call an ‘integrated triple-bottom-line impact assessment’.
