Interested in setting up and managing a thematic HRIA centre?
If you would like us to set up a thematic centre for organisations or individuals working in another area of human rights impact assessment, please contact us.
Thematic work centres are an ideal way to bring people focusing on specific rights or impact assessment areas together, or to promote discussion on a specific area of policy or practice. They contain both public and private document sharing facilities, discussion forums, and a range of other e-collaboration services.
Right to Health
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research has provided catalyst funding to an interdisciplinary group of researchers based out of the University of Toronto to develop a health impact assessment tool for trade-related intellectual property rights, based on standards drawn from the international human right to the highest attainable standard of health (‘the right to health’).

Women's Human Rights
The rights of women have been detailed in a special convention, the UN Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), as well as in other human rights conventions. By testing the effects of policy on women's rights, organisations can advocate for government policy which strengthens the position of women, and translates these conventions into concrete action.
The Women's Human Rights Impact Assessment Centre brings policy makers and practitioners in various aspects of women's human rights together and presents information on the available impact assessment tools.
Human Rights and Business
There is a strong business case for developing and conducting human rights impact assessment, not only prior to investments, but also during business activities and after business projects have been finalised. Maintaining a good reputation, identifying and managing risks, improving stakeholder relations and creating a license to operate are but a few of the reasons for private enterprises to conduct a human rights impact assessment.
