This second volume of the 'Embedding Human Rights in Business Practice' series, explores the practical application of the Global Compact's human rights Principles using case studies. It provides detailed examples of what businesses worldwide are doing with regards to the implementation of human rights within their own operations and activities and how they are doing this. The objectives of the series are firstly to help demonstrate the relevance of human rights for business, to help establish the business case for human rights and lastly, to inspire businesses everywhere to raise their human rights performance.
This second volume contains twenty cases studies about the experiences of a wide range of companies such as ABB, Achilles, Eskom, NIKE, Shell, Starbucks and Volkswagen. These cases adress a number of human rights such as civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights illustrating in which ways human rights issues can be relevant for business.
The questions and issues that are explored in this volume are the following:
• What is the business case for adopting a proactive approach in dealing with human rights issues?

• What are the boundaries of a company’s human rights responsibilities?
• What are the success factors for integration of human rights concerns into business
practices?
