Compliance Assessment Tools

Various Human Rights impact Assessment tools, some of which are referred to as compliance assessments, others as risk assessments, have been developed. While some are more project-based assessments, other apply a rather integrated management approach, thereby ensuring the implementation of human rights throughout the management system.

Human Rights Impact Assessments are based on the normative framework of international human rights law laid down in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the international Covenants on Civil and Political Rights, and on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The tools are guided by such principles as participation, stakeholder engagement and transparency.
